In 2010; at the Tournament of Roses Bandfest, a moving half time show is performed . As the band amazes the audience by playing a fabulous show; the band receives a standing ovation in the end. Working hard for months and months; having a brutal band camp learning to march and play your music while they can’t even see a thing. This band proves itself beyond all others. The Ohio State school for the blind; give the same opportunities to blind students as if they were “normal” students with sight. They have the opportunity to participate in Marching band; a dream come true for many musicians who never thought it could be possible.
Out of the many concepts we have learned i can apply three the best! The Ohio State school for the blind, is a government sponsored school that gives blind students the same opportunities as students with sight. this school is a great example of “There is no such thing as a free lunch”due to the fact that tax payers pay for the government funded school; and in return the school provides the students with equal learning opportunities and extra curricular actives such as marching band. Showing that the opportunity cost is money for an education.
Economic equality and freedom are both other concepts also found in this article. By giving the students the ability to attend a school and enjoy marching band gives them equality. They gain equality because they are participating in the same activities as a student with sight. By gaining equality there is a trade off; economic freedom is being traded off. Even though students are receiving equality but someone has to pay for the school because there is no such thing as a free lunch. So the people are losing economic freedom because they have to pay a little more taxes for this school. (although i do not thin k many people would mind for this great cause!)
