Just hours before the NFL was set to start the season, ESPN showed how important Monday Night Football was by spending 15.2 billion dollars to expend the contract for the next ten years. They are going to be the channel with the most NFL games besides the NFL Network, adding 500 hours of NFL content to the Channel. This contract allows ESPN the send NFL games to the Verison cellphone network. This going to raise the price of the subscription to $4 a month.

This article shows how scarcity affects the outcome of television show that are shown on the network. With an extra 500 hours of football, ESPN has less time to show other television shows which means the non-football programs will be cut and lose money.

This also demonstrates trade-offs. By adding more NFL content, ESNP had to make the decision to cancel or change the times of other leading shows on their network. The Verison Network also made a trade off by adding more NFL games, but raising the price. This shows how "theres no such thing as a free lunch". It also shows economic growth for the NFL. They expanded the amount of football shown on television which means more money and more jobs for the NFL.
