In this article, readers are told how difficult and intense marching band can be. The band students at MarianCatholicHigh School in Chicago Heights tell about their life as a band member and that they basically dedicate their lives to marching band. The band at Marian Catholic is considered to be “one of the best groups…in the country”. They have gone to Nationals and won 1st place multiple times.

There are many different concepts from class that can relate to marching band. First, the band members supply labor. They put all their hard work into their performances in order to win competitions. Secondly, marching band is similar to a command economy because all the members of the band have some say in what goes into the show (they are able to suggest ideas) but overall, the director has the final decision. The director also teaches the correct way to march. The students cannot march however they wish to. Lastly, it relates to scarcity. There is only one 1st place spot at Nationals and every band wants to fill that slot. Luckily, Marian Catholic’s band was able to fill that spot multiple times.
